How to spot a romance scam
Romance scams can be difficult to spot because scammers often create fake profiles and personas to lure victims into a false sense of security. However, there are some signs that can help you identify a potential romance scammer:
They move quickly: Scammers may try to rush the relationship, professing love and devotion very quickly. They may also try to move the conversation off the dating site or app and onto email or messaging apps.
They ask for money: Scammers often ask for money for various reasons, such as medical emergencies, travel expenses, or visas. They may also ask for gift cards or wire transfers.
They avoid meeting in person: Scammers may make excuses for why they can't meet in person, such as claiming to be out of the country or in the military. They may also cancel plans at the last minute.
They have inconsistent information: Scammers may provide inconsistent information about their job, family, or other personal details. They may also use photos that are clearly not of themselves.
They avoid video calls: Scammers may refuse to have video calls or only use pre-recorded videos. This is because they may be using a fake identity and don't want to be caught out.
If you are suspicious of someone you are talking to online, it's important to trust your instincts and take steps to protect yourself. Don't send money or share personal information, and report suspicious behavior to the dating site or app immediately.
I actually get 4 or 5 of these a week now!!! LOL
